Catwalk Cosmetics

I can be very strange, full stop. So at times it is only right I show it in my makeup.  I wanted to get the sexy, sultry beauty look featured in the catwalks every single year, the classic versarce modelesc look. Bordeline heroin chic. Heroin chic was a look popularized in mid 1990 fashion and characterized by pale skin, dark circles underneath the eyes, and jutting bones. The look, which promoted emaciated features and androgyny, was an alternative that stood in direct contradiction to the healthy and vibrant look of models such as Cindy Crawford, Claudia Schiffer, and Heidi Klum. A 1996 article in The Los Angeles Times charged that the fashion industry had "a nihilistic vision of beauty" that was reflective of drug addiction, and U.S. News and World Report called the movement a "cynical trend". I have chosen black eyes which I have applied in cat like shape on the entire eye and under the eye. Then orange cheeks for a retro blush and nude lips to contrast greatly with the big eyes. To bring a modern twist…

The catwalk as the years goes by some may say get stranger and stranger. I really love to indulge in the makeup and style japenese Geisha models. Today, the traditional makeup of the apprentice geisha is one of their most recognizable characteristics, though established geisha generally only wear full white face makeup characteristic of maiko during special performances. The traditional makeup of an apprentice geisha features a thick white base with red lipstick and red and black accents around the eyes and eyebrows. Originally, the white base mask was made with lead, but after the discovery that it poisoned the skin and caused terrible skin and back problems for the older geisha towards the end of the Meiji Era, it was replaced with rice powder!! I think they are so unique styled to any other part of the world, yet they are very traditional in their cosmetics and technique. Make-up artist’s have always dabbled in Geisha makeup but over the years it has been worn by famous icons such as Gwen Stefani and Lady Gaga.
